Focalabs

Your data, under your control

Foca is designed so your documents and company data stay on infrastructure you choose. Here is what stays there, what can go to a cloud AI model, and who has access.

01 · Where your data lives

Your company

  • Documents
  • Emails
  • Invoices
  • Bank statements

Foca Server

On your infrastructure or on a dedicated server managed by Focalabs

  • Vector database
  • Structured database
  • Audit log

AI model (cloud, if configured)

Where configured, receives the fragments relevant to a question, not complete documents

02 · Security principles

Storage on infrastructure you choose

Connected documents, emails and financial data are stored on the Foca server — either on your hardware or on a dedicated VPS. Document content can leave it only as fragments sent to the configured cloud AI model, described below.

Fragments, not complete files

When you ask a question, the platform sends the cloud AI model the text fragments relevant to it — not the complete document and not your whole archive. The context is reduced to what that answer needs.

Granular access control

Each user has configurable permissions. You control who can view data, generate reports, access emails, or administer the platform. 27 individual permissions available.

Complete audit trail

Every action in the platform is logged: who, what, when. AI conversations, generated reports, accessed documents, modified configurations — everything is traceable.

03 · What the AI model sees

Foca uses a language model (LLM) to understand your questions and formulate answers. Documents stay on infrastructure you choose; when the model runs in the cloud, it receives only the fragments relevant to your question, not complete documents.

Where an answer draws on your documents, it points to the sources used, so you can verify the information. A language model can be wrong, so important decisions deserve a check against the source documents.
